The Multipurpose Activity Center (MAC) bustles with activity, as student athletes grades 7-12 spend the morning hours participating in strength and conditioning workouts and weight lifting drills. The MAC serves our athletic teams, band, and CTE programs with the indoor football field, weight room, radio studio, green room and classroom space.

After months of patiently waiting, students, families, and community members were welcomed into the ExCEL facility for the Grand Opening event. Guests spent hours enjoying the ExCEL as they tested out the basketball and volleyball courts, indoor soccer field, classrooms, and Bistro.

The final two projects from the 2016 Bond are moving along nicely. The Multipurpose Activity Center (MAC) at the High School and the Excellence Center for Enhanced Learning (ExCEL) adjacent to Furlough Middle School both have exterior walls up and are on track to be opened in the Spring of 2018.

Students are back at school and are enjoying the renovated facilities. Our construction and maintenance crews worked incredibly hard to make sure everything was put back and perfect for our students and teachers.

It's time for the big reveal of the Treehouse at Gilbert Willie Sr. Elementary School! Students and staff have been patiently waiting all summer for the Treehouse to be completed. It is such a magical space where students can learn, explore, and grow. Thank you to Kevin Hale, the lead designer, for putting in countless hours of hard work to make this dream a reality for our students.

With nearly a month left before students return, our crews are hard at work getting the finishing touches on these projects. The exterior of of Gilbert Willie, Sr. Elementary is almost complete, the libraries are ready for shelves and books, and we have broken ground on the Multipurpose Activity Center at Terrell High School. We are excited for our students and teachers to begin the new school year in these incredible facilities.

What a difference 22 days makes. The exterior of the 6th Grade Academy at Furlough Middle School is complete, the new gymnasium at Gilbert Willie, Sr. Elementary is ready for flooring and the libraries are prepped for paint. Hats off to all of the construction and maintenance teams who are working around the clock to ready our campuses for our students and teachers.

School is out for summer and work is well underway at Kennedy, Long, Wood, and Furlough. A lot of demo work has been completed since students were released last Friday.

The new additions to John F. Kennedy Elementary and Herman Furlough, Jr. Middle School are coming along nicely. The framing for the 6th grade academy is officially up, and ground is being cleared for the Excellence Center for Enhanced Learning (ExCEL) facility located next to Furlough Middle School. We are excited about transitioning to the Kindergarten - 5th grade model beginning next school year.

Renovations are well underway at J. F. Kennedy Elementary School and Herman Furlough, Jr. Middle School. At Kennedy, the front entry will be completely transformed with the construction of a new library, gymnasium, and front offices. At Furlough Middle School, crews have cleared land for the future site of the 6th grade academy. Construction will be completed by the start of the 2017-2018 school year, when TISD will transition to the Kindergarten through 5th grade model at Kennedy, Long, and Wood elementary schools.

On Wednesday, May 11, 2016 TISD met with architects and the construction manager to begin the design and development process. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2016 with the goal of transitioning to the Kindergarten through 5th grade model in time for the 2017-18 school year.

Terrell ISD voters approved a $45 million bond proposal. The proposal was approved by TISD voters by a margin of 63-37 percent.
The school district will now begin the process of renovating and upgrading all elementary schools in order to transition to a Kindergarten through 5th grade model, building a separate 6th grade academy at Furlough Middle School, building an Excellence Center for Enhanced Learning, building a multi-purpose facility at Terrell High School, and making safety upgrades at all TISD campuses.
"I am grateful to the voters of TISD for taking the first step in leaving a positive legacy on this district and community," said TISD Board President Dena Risinger. "Tonight, voters overwhelmingly chose to support our students, teachers, and schools. This bond election isn't just an investment in Terrell ISD; it is an investment in the future of Terrell, America."
"We sincerely appreciate the confidence that the community has shown in the Board of Trustees' and Citizens Facilities Team’s direction for the future of TISD," said Micheal French, Superintendent of TISD. "Voters' willingness to invest in our school district will pay dividends for our students and this community for years to come."
