Terrell ISD Fine Arts

We believe participation in Visual and Performing Arts should continue through formal education and beyond, provide the student the opportunity to experience and explore creative self-expression, provide a viable, systematic curriculum to allow every child to experience a true and lasting love of the Arts, promote enjoyment, involvement, and support of the Arts in the community, provide the required fundamental skills and nurture the creative passion in students seeking to pursue careers in the Arts.

Fine Arts programs are offered on both the elementary and secondary levels. Terrell ISD's current Fine Arts programs include:

Tiger Band


The Terrell High School Band is composed of over 150 students, grades 9 - 12. The band program is a multifaceted musical performance program. The Tiger Marching Band comprises 150 plus performers, performs at all varsity football games, and has a competitive marching season in October and November. The concert band program is comprised of two performing ensembles and Percussion Ensemble. In addition to these musical ensembles, the program has an established colorguard program for grades 9-12. The program is an integral part of the visual side of the marching band and participates in the North Texas Colorguard Circuit in the spring. Visit the Tiger Band Website. Furlough Middle School Band


Director: Cody Morrow | cody.morrow@terrellisd.org The Furlough Middle School Bands are composed of over 300 students, grades 6 - 8. Instrumental music begins in the sixth grade at Furlough Middle Schools and is taught in homogeneous class settings. Full band classes are structured for seventh and eighth graders where individual skills are emphasized, and ensemble skills are developed and refined. In addition to these musical ensembles, the program has an established colorguard program for grades 6-8. With over 50 students enrolled, the colorguard participates in public performance opportunities and the North Texas Colorguard Circuit. Choir


Choral performance teaches students to overcome anxiety and to take risks. They learn poise, composure, and the value of continued effort to achieve excellence. As a direct result of making music as a team, students have the opportunity to build and cultivate lasting friendships. Above all, music performance students know the satisfaction, and the success felt as the result of hard work, and this carries over into every other aspect of their lives. Choir is open to students in grades 6-12. Auditions are required for participation in certain high school groups. To schedule an audition, contact the THS and FMS Choir Director, Stephanie Hardin, at stephanie.hardin@terrellisd.org ELEMENTARY MUSIC The Terrell ISD music program begins at the elementary school level with a sequential, developmental, literacy oriented General Music curriculum delivered by a highly qualified Music Specialist meeting one day per week. This instruction is enhanced at the individual campus level by a variety of extra-curricular ensembles and the select auditioned All-City Children's Chorale made up of elementary students from across the district. Students rehearse weekly on Thursdays at the Furlough Middle School Choir Room from 4:15 pm - 6:00 pm. For more information please contact Susanne Zoch at susanne.zoch@terrellisd.org. Information regarding auditions will be sent out during the first weeks of school.




Visual Arts


The Terrell ISD Visual Arts Department is committed through the making of art to developing skills and craftsmanship, engagement and persistence, envisioning, expressing, observing, reflecting, stretching and exploring, and understanding the relationship between their art as a valid expression of the world around them. The Middle School Art teachers encourage students to develop skills in a positive working environment. The sequential curriculum has been developed according to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. TERRELL HIGH SCHOOL A variety of art courses are offered at Terrell High School to meet the needs of our students. The sequential curriculum (Levels I- IV) has been developed according to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills. Beginning with Level I, students prepare a portfolio of works that can be used for advanced course offerings. Students are provided with a wide variety of opportunities for exhibitions and competitions.




Theater

We are dedicated to providing a variety of programming which will challenge, improve, and strengthen what the child learns in the Theater classroom.The school district provides opportunities for children in the Middle School. At Terrell High School, theater students can choose to specialize in acting or technical theater: ACTING PROGRAM​ Explore methods of artistic expression, the personnel and organization of the theater, and the structure of the written play-script. Build on your speaking, writing, and reading skills through performance and production. Study acting, directing, and play analysis. High School Students begin by exploring methods of artistic expression, the personnel and organization of the theater, and the structure of the written play-script. Through performance and production, students build on their speaking, writing, and reading skills. As they progress through the program, students will build knowledge in costumes and makeup. Students will have frequent performing opportunities, and build skill sets to use in multiple formats. From here, the young thespians can go on to study acting, directing, and play analysis. ​TECHNICAL THEATER PROGRAM Discover the backstage world of the theater. Learn about stage terminology, lighting, sound, and set building. Students in this program will work district events and shows and may have the opportunity to work some of the national tours that come into our district. From this foundation of knowledge, you can go further to study set design and construction, costuming and make up, and lighting and sound.




Tigerettes


Tigerettes Director: sharon.harper@terrellisd.org Assistant Director: codi.irwin@terrellisd.org The Terrell Tigerettes were formed in 1951 and are one of the oldest teams in Texas. For over 70 years, the Tigerettes have entertained Terrell football fans and audiences around the world. Tigerettes have traveled the globe being ambassadors for Terrell and Terrell ISD. These young ladies also compete at dance competitions and have an impressive collection of awards. Tigerettes are composed of young ladies enrolled in Terrell High School. After a rehearsal and tryout process Tigerettes are selected to either the JV or Varsity Teams. The young ladies involved are held to highest standards and are school leaders.




Dance

Students will acquire vocabulary and skills in ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, and other genres. Dance history, choreography, and performance skills will be introduced. The class is participatory in nature, utilizing movement as a form of creative expression. Specific attire will be required. Attendance at after-school rehearsals and performances may be required.
