Where Students Come First

Parent & Student Commitments

At the Global Leadership Academy (GLA) it is our aim for parents and staff to work hand-in-hand to ensure that learning opportunities are maximized, both in and out of school. Parents will work as partners with the GLA staff to hold students accountable for their growth and development.

Parents/families will commit to the following aspects of the GLA that differ from Terrell ISD's traditional campuses including:

Uniform Dress Code: Students are expected to adhere to a uniform dress code unique to the GLA that will be purchased through a third party distributor, French Toast. The District’s dress code for the Global Leadership Academy (GLA) is established to encourage a strong sense of unity and belonging. The uniform dress standard at GLA is one of the many tenants of the campus that serve to promote a sense of honor, respect, and professionalism among the student body. In addition, the District’s dress code also teaches grooming and hygiene, prevents disruption, and minimizes safety hazards. The Board gives authority to campus principals to strengthen the District’s basic Student Dress Code as necessary. Students and parents may determine a student’s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the following:

Note: All uniform tops (i.e. polos, shirts, blouses), bottoms (i.e. pants, shorts, skirts), dresses, and ties must be purchased through French Toast (FT). Please visit www.frenchtoast.com and enter GLA’s school code to view the specific clothing and color options available for GLA students.

Technology Expectations: To support at-home learning initiatives, students are required to have access to internet as well as pay an annual technology fee for their 1-to-1 devices. As a part of the instructional model selected for the GLA, technology will play a major role in providing a personalized learning experience to GLA students. The small yearly technology fee will offset the costs to the district in providing this experience for our students. Scholarships may be available based on need.

Modified Calendar: Students attending the GLA will operate on a 4-day school week (Monday - Thursday) with a daily schedule of 7:45a.m. - 4:10p.m. In the same way that we want to provide unique and innovative learning environments to our families, we also want to extend that same mindset to our school calendar. A four-day school week will provide many benefits to our GLA students, including increased time to spend with family, work on projects, and embark on field trips and other independent learning opportunities.

At-Home Learning Expectations: We believe that learning is not an isolated event that only happens within the confines of the school building. Although we are utilizing a modified schedule at the GLA, the expectation is that learning continues to occur when students are not at school. Whether it’s spending time reading independently or collaborating on a class project, whether it’s taking a trip to a museum or spending time with family, we expect GLA students to maximize the learning opportunities provided to them as a result of the four-day school week.
