Expect More, Achieve More
Meet Our Counselor
Hello! I am Valecia Eaton-Noland, the new Counselor at Gilbert Willie Sr. Elementary. I was born and raised in Bryan, Texas and attended college at Prairie View A&M University. I have 20 plus years of experience in education, ranging from elementary to the collegiate level. This is my 15th year as a School Counselor. I am excited to be a part of an amazing school district, to be able to support our community.
THE ROLE OF A COUNSELOR
First and foremost, counselors are advocates for all individuals (students, staff, and parents). Our goal is to foster effective communication between the home and school.
Providing guidance content in a systematic way to all students. Promoting awareness, skill development, and application of skills needed in everyday life through classroom guidance lessons.
Addressing the immediate concerns of students through prevention and intervention.
Assisting students in monitoring and understanding their own development. Addressing educational, career, and personal-social goals.
Support activities and services including professional/staff development, campus improvement plan, parent education, campus decision-making, committees, etc.
Planning/Coordinating special events, supervisory duties, administrative duties, etc.
TISD counselors visit every classroom monthly during the school year. Character Education is integrated into the curriculum. There are six pillars of good character: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness, and citizenship throughout the school year. Counselors also discuss personal space, emotions, secrets, bullying, diversity, word choices and sharing.
