Counseling

Role of a Counselor

Terrell ISD counselors are advocates for all individuals (students, staff, and parents). Our goal is to foster effective communication between the home and school.

Our counselors provide curriculum guidance, responsive services, individual planning assistance, and overall system support.  Below you will find more detailed information on the services our district counselors provide.

Guidance Curriculum
Provide guidance content in a systematic way to all students. Promote awareness, skill development, and application of skills needed in everyday life through classroom guidance lessons.

Terrell ISD counselors visit every classroom monthly during the school year to provide character education.  There are six pillars of good character: respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, caring, fairness, and citizenship. Counselors also discuss personal space, emotions, secrets, bullying, diversity, word choices and sharing.

Responsive Services
Address the immediate concerns of students through prevention and intervention.

Individual Planning
Assist students in monitoring and understanding their own development. Provide support for educational, career, and personal-social goals.

System Support
Support activities and services including professional/staff development, campus improvement plan, parent education, campus decision-making, committees, etc.

Non-Guidance
Plan/Coordinate special events, supervisory duties, administrative duties, etc.
