Terrell ISD provides group health insurance coverage through TRS-ActiveCare, the statewide public school health insurance program. The insurance plan year is from September 1 through August 31.
The district’s contribution to employee insurance premiums is determined annually by the board of trustees. For the 2022-2023 school year, the district will contribute $300 per month toward insurance costs.
Employees eligible for health insurance coverage include:
Employees who are active, contributing TRS members, or
Employees who are regularly scheduled to work at least 10 hours per week
A new hire in a TRS-covered position who is a TRS member on his or her actively-at-work date must enroll within 31 days after the actively-at-work date. The employee's effective date is the employee's choice of:
(1) his or her actively-at-work date, or
(2) the first of the month following the employee's actively-at-work date.

Unable to make it to the doctor in person? No problem! Terrell ISD offers free access to telemedicine through TeleDoc for employees and their dependents. TelaDoc gives 24/7/365 access to U.S. board-certified doctors through the convenience of phone, video or mobile app visits.
Cafeteria Plan Benefits
Terrell ISD is proud to offer our employees the option to participate in a Cafeteria Plan (Section 125). Under IRS regulations, employees must either accept or reject this benefit. This plan enables eligible employees to pay certain insurance premiums on a pretax basis, i.e., disability, accidental death and dismemberment, cancer and dread disease, dental and additional term life insurance. A third party administrator handles employee claims made on these accounts.
Free Workout Membership
All eligible Terrell ISD employees receive a free gym membership to the EXCEL center. Hop on the treadmill, climb the stairmaster or lift weights.- you choose! The district even offers group classes after work for free!
Group Life Insurance
Terrell ISD is proud to offer all eligible employees a district paid life insurance policy in the amount of $10,000.
In addition to the Texas Teacher Retirement System (TRS), Terrell ISD also offers a matching retirement plan! Employees are 100% eligible to begin participating in the program starting in year three. ER – 457(b) / EE – 403(b) or 457(b) The graded 3-tier matching schedule is as follows and is based upon continuous years' of service:
3-5 years – 1%
6-20 years – 2%
21+ years – 3%

Terrell ISD employees who are employed on a regular basis for one half or more of the standard full-time workload are eligible for membership in the Texas Teacher Retirement System (TRS).
