Hall of Fame

Terrell ISD is proud to announce the  Class of 2025 Hall of Fame and Honor inductees.   The individuals selected for the Hall of Fame are recognized based on their athletic achievements, character, and overall contribution to the Terrell Independent School District.  This year's honorees are:  Johnnie Holmes, Bricky Lewis, Donny McEwan, Brashard Booker, LaCoria Davis, and Ciara Holmes-Moore. 

The Hall of Honor recognizes Terrell High School or Burnett High School alumni who have demonstrated outstanding achievement in the arts, athletics, or academic activities that have made a positive impact on the community.    This year's honorees are: Abbie H. Anderson, Francis R. Anderson, and Robert Hulsey.  

The Class of 2025 honorees will take part in an induction ceremony on Friday, October 17.   Read on below to learn more about each Hall of Fame and Hall of Honor honoree. 

HALL OF FAME INDUCTEES

Johnnie Holmes 
Johnnie Holmes graduated from Terrell High School in 1979 where he was a four-year member of the Terrell High School football and track team. He was also a proud member of the Terrell High School choir, however his passion was football. During his sophomore year, he was recognized as a key defensive player as a linebacker. As a junior, Holmes was named 2nd Team All District and had 48 tackles and 52 assists.  In that same year, he was also named as the first recipient of the “Fighting Tiger Award” and was a co-champion discus thrower on the track team. As a senior, Holmes wracked up the numbers with 161 yards on 16 carries with two pass interceptions in October of 1978; 135 yards on 11 carries in a game against Lancaster and 88 yards on 9 carries in a game versus McKinney. That fall, Holmes earned First Team All District honors for defense and Second Team All District honors for offense.  He was named Key Offensive Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and earned the title of Most Valuable Player.  After high school, Holmes attended North Texas State University in Denton where he played collegiate level football on the Southland Conference Championship football team. As a linebacker on the Mean Green football team, Holmes played all four years.  While a student, he also proudly served as a member of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Denton County and gave countless volunteer hours to help enrich the lives of young children.  In 1984, he returned to Terrell to raise a family and has served as a building contractor, building affordable housing for city of Terrell residents. Holmes was married to his late wife Candace for 31 years and together they had three children, Sherita, Ciara, and Johnnie. He is the proud “Paw Paw” of nine grandchildren. 


Bricky Lewis
Bricky Lewis graduated from Terrell High School in 1978 where he was a four-year basketball starter. During his junior year Lewis was named First Team All-District.  As a senior, Lewis was a force to be reckoned with on the court.  In one game against Paris he finished with 22 points, five rebounds and five assists to lead the Terrell scoring attack.  He finished his senior year with an average of 19 points per game where the team went undefeated in district play.  That year, Terrell earned the district, bi-district, and regional titles, where they played against Dangerfield ISD who had won the state championship the year prior, before they were stopped short in the state semifinals against Mineral Wells. 

As a senior he was named First Team All-District and was also recognized as a 3rd Team All-Metro Player.  After graduation, Lewis attended Paris Junior College where he played point guard and served as a starter his sophomore year.  After college Lewis joined the Navy where he served for three years and was stationed in Charleston, South Carolina.  He then returned to Terrell and worked in the manufacturing industry.  Lewis is the proud father of five children, Kwana, Latoya, Tara, Joshua, and Jalen, and ten grandchildren who affectionately call him Paw Paw. 


Donny McEwan
Donny McEwan graduated from Terrell High School in 1984 where he was a three year letterman in football, four year letterman in baseball and one year letterman in track and basketball.  In baseball he excelled as a shortstop, pitcher and outfielder.  Her earned unanimous All-District Outfielder honors his junior and senior years and led his team from the lead-off position as a senior with a .399 batting average and tops in singles, triples and home runs despite the team never reaching the playoffs.  

On the football team, McEwan played as a kicker, punter, tight-end and defensive back.  His senior class had a four-year 35-9-2 record and two Co-District championships - the best four-year record since the tenure of Coach Leon Vineyard’s time.   McEwan scored in 94% of all games played in, including extra points, field goals and touchdowns, and earned All-District honors in all four positions ranking in the top two in receiving yards and touchdowns.   He averaged 39 yards per punt with a 34-yard net average, was a two-time All-District kicker and earned All-Area recognition from the Terrell Tribune his junior and senior years.  Throughout his football career, he never had a kick or punt blocked, and his kick offs and punts were never returned for a touchdown.  Furthermore, his opponents’ starting line of scrimmage averaged inside the 20 yard line on kickoffs his senior year.    Key plays during his sophomore year include helping lead his team to victory 11-10 over McKinney - a highly ranked team at the time - and two field goals and two extra points made against Sulphur Springs to secure an 8-2 season.   As a junior he kicked a 48 yard field goal versus highly ranked Rockwall to win 3-0, kicked a 39 yarder against state finalist Corsicana and caught three interceptions during the season.  As a senior, he kicked a 41 yard field goal against Lancaster, a 50 yard field goal against Desoto and helped his team secure a Co-District Championship.   During the playoffs that year he secured a 35 yard field goal against Waco and ran back an interception for 55 yards.  He then went on to kick a 50 yard field goal against Allen and snagged a 56 yard touchdown reception.  Finally, his interception against Paris helped his team advance to the fourth round of the playoffs.   

For his leadership, he was honored with the Terrell High School “T” award his junior and senior year and received the Evening Lions Club Scholarship.    McEwan was awarded a football scholarship to Kilgore Junior College and later played for both Navarro College and Midwestern State University.  He completed his studies at the University of Houston and graduated Cum Laude. While there he earned numerous honors including being named to the Dean’s List, the Athletic Honor Roll, was a member of the Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society and Golden Key International Honour Society and was named Outstanding Undergraduate by the faculty.   

As an educator, Coach McEwan has been recognized multiple times including being named Teacher of the Month and was nominated for Teacher of the Year at Deer Park North Campus High School.   He has been a member of multiple All-District Coaching Staffs for football and baseball and was a two-time District Coach of the Year for Baseball and has coached multiple District Champion and Regional Finalist teams.    McEwan’s journey reflects a lifelong commitment to leadership, excellence and service - whether on the field, in the classroom, or within the community. 

Brashard Booker
Brashard Booker graduated from Terrell High School in 2008, where he excelled both academically and athletically. He was a dedicated member of the student council, consistently achieved A/B honor roll status, and maintained perfect attendance throughout his high school career.

As a freshman, Booker participated in football, basketball, and track, competing on the JV level in basketball and track. By his sophomore year, his athletic talents began to shine, earning him Sophomore of the Year honors in both football and basketball, along with a third-place finish in the triple jump at the District meet.

During his junior year, Booker reached new heights, being named First Team All-District in both football and basketball, while also claiming first place in both the triple jump and long jump at the District track meet. His senior year was even more remarkable as he earned All-State honors as a safety in football and went on to place first in  long jump at the District meet and seventh at Regionals.

Booker’s outstanding performance earned him a full-ride athletic scholarship to Northwestern State University in Louisiana, where he played safety for the Demons. During his college career, he received numerous accolades, including being named a 2010 Wild Demon Club honoree, a 2011 Preseason All-SLC Second Team member, and an All-SLC Honorable Mention. He graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice.

From 2013 to 2016, Booker continued his football journey at the professional level, playing arena football for the New Mexico Stars, Kansas Coyotes, and finishing his career with the Duke City Gladiators.

Today, Booker is a proud business owner, operating his own apparel brand while giving back to his community by volunteering with youth football and track teams. Above all his accomplishments, he cherishes his role as a devoted father to his three children: Brashard Jr., Akeelah, and Laylani.

Brashard is the proud son of Tracie Booker and Walter McCullar, whose love and support have been the foundation of his journey.


LaCoria Davis
LaCoria Davis graduated from Terrell High School in 1995 where she was a four-year member of the varsity basketball team, was a member of the cross country team, ran track, and was a varsity cheerleader.  During her time at Terrell High School, Davis had some impressive basketball stats most especially during her senior year.  In one game against West Mesquite, Davis had 19 points and 11 rebounds; and in a game against Lancaster she led Terrell with 14 points and pulled down 13 rebounds; and, in a game against Crandall she led with 17 points and 14 rebounds.  As a senior she was the number three rebounder in the area, was unanimously named the All-District Defensive Player of the Year and helped her team earn a District playoff appearance. Davis was also named Most Athletic by the senior class and was ranked in the top 15% of her class. 

After high school, Davis attended Tyler Junior College on a basketball scholarship where she played small forward for two years and earned an Associate in Arts degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.  She then transferred to Texas A&M University-Commerce to finish her collegiate basketball career.  Davis holds a Bachelors of Science in Sociology from Texas A&M University-Commerce and a Masters of Arts and Teaching in Mathematics from Texas Women's University. 

For the past 18 years she has been a math teacher and currently works at Furlough Middle School as the campus Media Specialist. She has been recognized on numerous occasions for her teaching ability and has twice been named Teacher of the Month in 2022 and 2024 and was the Furlough Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2023. Davis was married to her late husband Antwone Simmons for seven years and is the proud mom of two sons, Landon and Langston. 

Ciara Holmes-Moore
Ciara Holmes-Moore graduated from Terrell High School in 2010 where she was a four-year member of the varsity volleyball and basketball team. She was also a member of DECA, the National Honor Society, graduated top 10% of her class, was a Homecoming Nominee, was crowned Prom Queen and voted “Best All Around” by her peers.

As a freshman on the varsity volleyball team, Moore was named Offensive Most Valuable Player and earned 2nd Team All-District honors. As a sophomore, Moore was named Most Valuable Player and once again took home 2nd Team All-District honors for volleyball and was named the Most Valuable Player on the basketball team. During her junior year, she put down a season-high of 27 kills in a game against Forney and was again the volleyball team’s Most Valuable Player. She also took home 2nd Team All-District honors in basketball after helping her team clinch a first-round playoff appearance. As a senior, Moore had an impressive performance on both the volleyball and basketball court. During volleyball season, she racked up impressive stats including 17 kills and four blocks in a game against Greenville, 12 kills and 12 blocks in a game against Mabank and 14 kills and 8 blocks against Rockwall Heath. As a captain, she helped lead her team to the bi-district playoffs for the first time in 24 years and third time in Tiger history. That year she was named District Blocker of the Year, Most Valuable Player and was a two-time player of the week. She also earned 2nd Team All-District honors for her skills on the basketball court.

After graduation, Moore attended Texas A&M University - Commerce on a full ride volleyball scholarship where she held a starting position all four years, was named Teammate of the Year and earned LSC All Conference Honors.  She graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s of Science in Biological Sciences and later obtained her nursing degree from UT Arlington. Moore has been a registered nurse for the past six years and enjoys serving the community. She is the proud wife of 10 years to Tevin Moore, and together they have one amazing daughter, Taubri.

HALL OF HONOR INDUCTEES

Abbie H. Anderson
Abbie H. Anderson was a 1946 graduate of W.H. Burnett High School and a longtime advocate for Terrell public schools.  After high school graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Army at the end of WWII. Using the GI Bill, he attended Tuskegee Institute and joined the ROTC. He served in the U.S. Army for 25 years and retired at the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.  He completed overseas tours in Korea, Germany and Vietnam and US Army Posts in California, Massachusetts, Louisiana, Georgia, Missouri and Texas. After he retired from the Army, he worked for New York Life Insurance Company where he was a loyal employee for 25 years.  

Rivaling Mr. Anderson’s love for his country was also his love and fierce advocacy for public education and the children of Terrell. After returning to Terrell, Mr. Anderson ran for a seat on the Terrell ISD Board of Trustees in 1975 because he fully believed he could be of assistance to the city’s youth and felt  his managerial and leadership experience could be of service to district leaders.  He went on to serve on the Terrell ISD Board of Trustees for the next 30 years and was elected President of the Board in 1985 and continued to serve in that capacity until 2006.    Mr. Anderson never claimed any personal accomplishments while serving on the board - electing to always make sure the credit went to the students and staff of Terrell ISD.  In describing his demeanour, colleagues shared that he was an outstanding individual who always took the high road.  He was known simultaneously as being someone who was fair, but was also not afraid to stand his ground - a testament to his military background.   He was a firm believer in the power of education and the lasting generational impact it can have on one’s legacy.  

Abbie H. Anderson was married to his wife Frances for 67 years.  Together they had four children, Donna Renee, Rosalind, Abbie Harvey, Jr. and Michael.  Mr. Anderson passed away in November 2020. 


Frances R. Anderson
Hailing from British Guiana (since 1966 it has been known as Guyana), Mrs. Frances R. Anderson arrived in Terrell in 1971 with her husband, Abbie H. Anderson, upon his retirement from the U.S. Army as a Lieutenant Colonel.  After relocating to the United States as a young girl, Frances attended Tuskegee Institute and graduated with a Bachelor’s in Agriculture/Animal Husbandry before pursuing additional studies at Lincoln University, East Texas State University and Texas A&M-Commerce. 

Mrs. Anderson was a lifelong educator and had a teaching career that spanned 30 years - most of which was spent educating the students of Terrell ISD.  She earned a lifetime certificate in both elementary and secondary education and touched the lives of thousands of students.  Additionally, Mrs. Anderson served as a member of the Terrell City Council for seventeen years and was subsequently elected as Mayor Pro Tem; and, in 2002, she became the first Black woman to serve as Mayor of the City of Terrell. Her service also expanded to the Kaufman County Appraisal District, the Terrell Economic Development Corporation, Terrell Alliance of Education and the Arts and Southwestern Christian College.    

Mrs. Anderson was married to her late husband, Abbie H. Anderson, LtCol US Army Retired, for 67 years.  Together they had four children, Donna Renee, Rosalind, Abbie Harvey, Jr. and Michael.  Having just celebrated her birthday on October 3rd, today she is 98 years young and is enjoying her well deserved retirement from public service.

Robert Hulsey
Robert A. Hulsey is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the American National Bank of Texas, headquartered in Terrell, Texas.  Hulsey joined the bank in 1976 and was named President and CEO in October 1989.  At that time, the bank had four branches and slightly less than $200 million in total assets.  Today, the bank has 28 branches and $5.3 billion in total assets. 

A 1964 graduate of Terrell High School, Hulsey holds a Bachelor’s Degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Texas and a Master’s Degree in business from the Wharton Graduate School at the University of Pennsylvania.   

Ever a community servant, Mr. Hulsey has served on numerous local and surrounding area foundations including the Kaufman County Children’s Shelter, the Terrell ISD Excellence Foundation - where he served as President - as well as President of the North Dallas High School Partners in Education.    Additionally, he served as a director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of Texas, The Texas Bankers Association, the Southwestern Clearing House Association and was past chairman of the Independent Bankers Association of Texas.    He currently serves on the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, the Better Business Bureau of North Texas and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Episcopal Diocese of the Dallas Corporation and Senior Warden of the Vestry of the Church of The Incarnation. 

He and his wife, Sherry, have two sons, Brian and Anthony.
