Terrell ISD is proud to announce the launch of the Terrell ISD Virtual Academy, opening in August 2026 for incoming high school juniors and seniors. This exciting new opportunity reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to providing more choices for our families while continuing to deliver the high-quality education our community expects.
While the first year of the Academy will serve incoming juniors and seniors, the district plans to add additional grade levels in the future.
The Virtual Academy will offer students the flexibility to complete various coursework online rather than attending classes in person. Designed with today’s learners in mind, the program allows students the opportunity to balance academic responsibilities with personal interests, work opportunities, or other commitments—without sacrificing rigor or support.
In collaboration with Forney ISD and other Kaufman County school districts, the Virtual Academy will provide a wide range of course offerings, including English, history, science, government, economics, and various electives. This partnership ensures students have access to a robust and diverse curriculum.
A familiar face has also been selected to lead the Virtual Academy. John Chilcoat will now serve as the Principal of Innovative Learning Programs and will lead both the Virtual Academy and the Phoenix Program as well as the district’s alternative school.
To help families learn more, Terrell ISD will host several information sessions throughout the month of April. Students wishing to enroll in the Virtual Academy must complete registration by Thursday, April 24. Students will be notified of their acceptance into the academy by Friday, May 8.
Please note that seating is limited, and interested students are encouraged to act quickly.

We are excited to expand opportunities for our students and look forward to supporting their success through the Terrell ISD Virtual Academy.
