Terrell ISD earns a B

The Texas Education Agency has released accountability ratings for school districts and STAAR scores show Terrell ISD has seen vast improvements in reading, third and fourth grade math and high school biology.

The state’s accountability system rates school districts on student achievement, school progress/growth and closing gaps in student performance.  Overall, Terrell ISD received a B rating with a score of 84. Furthermore, the district earned a score of 91 in relative performance.  With 75% of the district’s students being economically disadvantaged, our students performed at a higher level when compared to districts with similar economically disadvantaged students.

Five of the district’s campuses, Terrell High School, Gilbert Willie, Sr. Elementary, Global Leadership Academy, W.H. Burnett, and Terrell Alternative Education Center earned a letter grade of B.  Additionally, Global Leadership Academy earned academic distinctions in science and postsecondary readiness and Gilbert Willie, Sr. Elementary earned academic distinctions in science.

The remaining campuses, J.W. Long and Wood Elementary and Furlough Middle School received a rating of “not rated.”  Terrell ISD’s second alternative campus, Child and Adolescent School at Terrell State Hospital was also not rated.

“Terrell ISD teachers and staff have diligently worked the past two years to improve student academic achievement,” stated Georgeanne Warnock, Superintendent of Schools. “While the pandemic has been extremely challenging and more work is still to be done, we continue to remain focused on student growth. STAAR scores represent only one measure of our campuses and we know the immeasurable impact of connections and learning that happen everyday in our buildings. Our teachers and staff are to be commended for the great work they do in partnership with our families.  I am incredibly proud of our students and staff.
