Izabelle Valle

When Terrell High School freshman Izabella Valle transferred from private school, she knew she was stepping into a bigger world, one that would challenge her to grow, connect, and eventually lead.

As a middle schooler, Izabella attended a small, K-12 private school with a total enrollment of 500 students.  As an eighth grader, she began to desire something different and knew she was ready for something bigger.

“Public schools are more diverse, and that’s one of the reasons I wanted to come,” she shared. “I wanted to expose myself to people who don’t look like me, act like me, or believe the same things I do.”

The shift from a class of 17 students in her grade to more than 400 was an adjustment, but she embraced the change. “Making friends has been pretty easy, it's just about getting out of your comfort zone,” she said. “It’s easy once you start a conversation. My core group of friends welcomed me right away and it feels like we’ve always known each other.”

Izabella was quick to embrace the full high school experience, becoming a member of the Student Council, Fashion Design Program, and District’s Strategic Visioning Committee. She has quickly become a student leader known for her empathy and initiative.

Her involvement with the District’s Strategic Visioning Committee - a select group of 15 students across the middle and high school -  has given her a platform to represent her peers. “It has been great being a part of this committee and to be able to hear others’ point of view on how they want to improve Terrell High School,” she said. “It’s important for my voice and the voice of my peers to be heard.”

Isabella also credits her teachers for helping her feel supported and confident in her transition. “My favorite teacher is Mr. Foy, my Geometry teacher,” she said. “He’s patient and makes sure we understand each mathematical concept. He really meets us where we are.”

Between football games, pep rallies, and plans to try out for basketball or tennis later this year, Izabella says she’s living the real high school experience.

“I’ve discovered so many interests I wouldn’t have found in private school,” she shared. “Public school has given me the chance to stretch myself and to become better, and that’s something for which I am grateful.  I have found my voice and I am ready to use it.”
