Durell Thompson

A familiar face will step into the role of Terrell High School Principal at the start of the 2026-2027 school year. Terrell ISD is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Durell Thompson as the principal of Terrell High School. Dr. Thompson previously served as the Associate Principal for the past three years.

Dr. Thompson began his career as a high school English teacher in Shepherd ISD and has served as an Instructional Coach, Intervention Administrator, Assistant Principal and Associate Principal - all at the high school level.  Thompson holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology with a minor in English and a Masters of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from Sam Houston University.  He also holds a doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A&M University. 

“I am both honored and excited to be named the proud principal of Terrell High School,” shared Thompson.  “For the past three years, the success of Terrell High School and the Terrell community has been my passion and calling.  I am confident that by continuing to work together with staff and community every Terrell High School student will receive the best-rounded education in order to reach their highest potential. I am excited to continue to build upon our current success and to further our achievements in Tiger Nation!”

Thompson replaces Earl Gilmore, who has been named Executive Director of Human Resources for Terrell ISD.
